It's about fun and it's about learning. The PreSchool at the Ashland Child Development Center embraces both ideas and makes them compatible - with a number of hugs thrown in for good measure.

Here at the center, we believe that children learn by doing. We understand the importance of developmentally appropriate practices and the recommended practices for each age of child. We offer a variety of group and individual experiences, as well as, introduction of cultural events throughout the community. Our facility offers play centers for housekeeping and "dress-up", "school and business", entertainment and music, blocks and puzzles, arts and crafts, and indoor exercise for development of large motor skills.

The children also learn from trips to the library, plays and presentations at the Paramount Arts Center, visits to the museums - both Art and History, occasional movies, as well as farms, fairs and state parks. On special occasions, they present music programs for nursing homes and senior centers, and they go caroling at Christmas.

We provide monthly calendars; one is a food menu and the other displays daily activities. A typical day includes Circle Time for all, small group learning situations, music and stories, art or craft project, afternoon nap, and free play time - both indoors and outside.

Our activities calendar offers the parents, the information that is, sometimes, needed to start conversation and learn about their child's daily activities. Our menu assures parents that their child is receiving a nutritious meal, which includes the four food groups; breakfasts and snacks are planned accordingly. Our kitchen constantly receives the highest marks from the Health Department. We have received a Special Merit award, as well.
